Alex Whitmore netted a pair of goals and added an assist for Marblehead’s boys hockey team, to fly past its arch-nemesis Swampscott 4-1.”Alex’s (Whitmore) goals were a result of shooting the puck a little quicker and getting bodies in front of the net,” Magicians coach Bob Jackson said.”It was good to see his line (Chris McLeod and Ryan Dempsey) begin to click on a bit. I thought all three of them played very well yesterday.”McLeod finished the game with a pair of assists, while Dempsey chipped in with a goal.Tyler Gallagher had a sensational game in net for the Big Blue (4-2) turning away 36 shots.”I have to give Swampscott a lot of credit,” said Jackson. “We had a very strong second period and we were talking about trying to go out there and score a fifth goal.”Swampscott came out there and played a very strong third period. They didn’t quit. They had two or three really good scoring opportunities that would have put them back in the game.”I was impressed with their effort.”Colby Wollerscheid scored Swampscott’s lone goal, which at the time tied the game at one in the first period.Fenwick 2, Watertown 1At Fenwick, the Crusaders (4-3) had an impressive third period to seal the win against Watertown.Alex Creco, who was moved up to forward from defense to give the team a much needed spark, responded by scoring his first career points, a goal and an assist.Andrew Young scored the game winner in the third period.”The one key thing that we’ve done well is staying out of the box,” Fenwick coach Dan Lynch said.”Five-on-five I think that we can play with anyone. You start to get worn down in the third period if you spend too much time short-handed, and we were absolutely flying around out there in third.”Peabody 5, Revere 2At McVann O’Keefe Rink, Andrew Bucci scored his second hat trick of the season for the Tanners. In five games, he has eight goals and five assists.Eric Costa and Rob Houghton scored the other two Peabody goals. Eric Muise and Derrik Pereira added a pair of assists.Lynnfield 2, N. Andover 2At Merrimack College, Craig Anderson and Andrew Garbino scored the Pioneers (3-2-1, 1-2-1 Cape Ann League) goals. Dylan Costa picked up an assist on both goals. Craig Cataldo turned away 23 shots.”I think that that the team is continuing to make progress,” Lynnfield coach Vin Mirasolo said.”We’re seeing a lot of the things that we’ve worked on in practice show up on the ice. I think that the team showed the type of hockey that we are capable of playing in spurts.”Springfield Cath. 3,St. Mary’s 0At Connery Rink, the Spartans outshot Springfield Catholic 22-20 but couldn’t produce any offense. Donald Hesse turned away 17 shots.”It was a great team effort,” St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee said.”Everyone gave everything they had. It was our best effort of the season, but unfortunately we didn’t get a win to show for it.”Danvers 5, Gloucester 1At Rockett Arena, Kyle Larson’s hot start continued as he scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the Falcons (3-2-1).Mike Allain turned away 22 shots for Danvers.Winthrop 5, Beverly 2At Beverly, Chris Leblanc scored a pair of goals for the Vikings.
