LYNN – For the Lynn Jets, Saturday’s 6-1 win over Saugus on a snowy night at Connery Rink was every bit of a team effort. The Jets got a pair of shorthanded goals from Terry Finnigan, power play goals from Bucky Surette and Jordan Morelli and added two even strength goals for good measure. They also killed all eight power play chances the Sachems had and got 19 saves from Nick Comeau to record a sixth straight win.”Any win that you can get in the league is huge,” Lynn coach Joe Conlon said. “We want do defend our home rink, especially in conference games.”Since losing to Marblehead on December 19th, the Jets (7-1-0, 3-1-0 NEC South) have outscored their opponents 28-15 during their six game win streak. On Saturday, it took less than a minute for Lynn to get going.Saugus’ Mike Kotowski was called for cross-checking at 19 seconds and it took the Jets only 33 ticks to capitalize when Bucky Surette fired home a Kyle Martin rebound to make it 1-0.Moments later, the Jets had a chance to extend the lead when the Sachems were given a 4:00 major for a butt end. But the Saugus penalty killers came through and did not allow a shot on the extended power play. Midway through the period, Saugus began a streng of six consecutive power plays when it got a 2-man advantage for 59 seconds.COmeau, however, came up with a pair of clutch saves on the 5-on-3 to thwart Saugus’ chance to get even.”Our PK has been solid all year,” Conlon said. “We have a lot of guys who like to go out there and kill penalties.”Later in the first, Lynn was shorthanded again when Jack Carter was called for interference at 10:18. But the Jets turned the disadvantage into offense when Finnigan took the puck away at the Lynn blue line and manuvered for a slap shot that whistled under the crossbar to make it 2-0 after one.In need of a boost at the start of the second, Saugus got it early when Mike Green took a pass from Ralph Paglucca and beat Comeau inside the left post with a shot from the top of the left circle. Seconds later, Lynn was shorthanded again when Kyle Devin was called for charging.Leave it to the Jets penalty killers though to wrest the momentum back as they killed the penalty. Lynn then restored its two goal lead at 6:32 when Carter’s slapshot hit a skate in front of the net and got past Dan Salvetti to make it 3-1 after two. After failing to strike with 57 seconds of power play time to start the third, Lynn saw Saugus go on its seventh power play of the game moments later. But Finnigan and Mike Duggan teamed to deliver a knockout blow to the Sachems.Duggan broke up a play at the Lynn line and poked the puck ahead to Finnigan in the neutral zone.He skated in and deked Salvetti to make it 4-1 just 99 seconds into the third.Surette got his second goal of the game five minutes later before MOrelli’s power play goal with 1:09 to go closed the scoring.
