The St. John’s boys basketball team jumped out to a 24-10 first-quarter lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 76-50 win over Classical at Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday.”Classical is a good team and has a great player in Jasper (Grassa),” Prep coach Sean Connolly said. “We were able to jump on them early to build up a lead.”Pat Connaughton paced five players in double figures for St. John’s with 19 points. Tina Moran threw a personal-best 30-6 to finish eighth in the shot put. Marshfield finished second with 184.Lynnfield-North Reading had four champions: Nick McGrath, 130 lbs.; Chris O’Connor, 152; Matt Curran, 160; and Jay Godding, 171.Four team members finished second: Paolo Settipane, 103; Jeff Conron, 125; Richie Falcione, 135; and Trent Taylor, 140.Chris DiPietro (119) finished third and Adam Salemme (145) finished fourth.This was the team’s first tournament title since becoming a co-op team in 2005.
