Winter concert series at Marblehead coffeehouse kicks off Feb. 5

Debra Glidden

January 20, 2010 by Debra Glidden

MARBLEHEAD ? The me & thee will kick off its winter concert season on Feb. 5 with David Francey, who is one of the finest singer-songwriters on the acoustic music circuit.Francey was born in the 1950s in Ayrshire, Scotland, where he was a paper boy and got his first taste of the working life. Francey said exposure to news honed his interest in politics and world events while enabling him to develop the social consciousness that is evident in his songs. His family immigrated to Toronto when he was 12 and spent weekends exploring southern Ontario on road trips and he said music – specifically traditional Scottish tunes – was a big part of those excursions. As a young adult he also hitchhiked across Canada three times and also thumbed his way to the Yukon. Those experiences, he said, are reflected in his songs about railroads, farms and the St. Lawrence Seaway.Francey will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Craig Werth. The New Hampshire musician, songwriter, educator and humorist has been performing with Francey since 2006. The Philadelphia-based duo Beaucoup Blue will be opening for Francey and Werth. If You Go?The 8 p.m. show will be at the me & thee coffeehouse in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead, 28 Mugford St. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Advance sale tickets available at www.meandthee.org
