LYNN – This hasn’t been a bad week for Classical’s Chevere Archer.First the outside linebacker/found out he had been selected to play in the Shriners’All-Star football game this summer and on Thursday, he set a school record in the high jump with a leap of 6-1.Archer said he had hit six feet a couple of times, but his goal was reach 6-1 during his final indoor season. He not only did it with one meet to spare(the Rams finish up with Everett on Monday), but he did it against rival English at Lynn Tech Thursday night.”I was surprised,” Archer said. “I had one more jump to break it.”The old record of 6-0 was held by Ian Bernard in 1978.Classical track coach Ryan Hathaway was thrilled by both accomplishments.”I’ve coached him in football and track for four years now and I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s a terrific kid and an extremely hard worker,” Hathaway said, adding that all his hard work in the weight room and in track has paid off.Archer, who was an Item Football All-Star this fall, is hoping to play football at the college level and is looking at schools like Merrimack College, Bentley University, Curry College and Framingham State College. In his final season with the Rams, he made 64 1/2 tackles (40 solo), with 13 sacks, 31 tackles for losses, one fumble recovery, three blocked kicks and he caught two passes. The Shriners game is scheduled for June 18 at Gillette Stadium.
