SALEM – Wanted: People who know about biotechnology, health care, advanced manufacturing, financial services, construction and the creative economy – and are willing to teach others as part of a regional job-training program.The North Shore Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is accepting bids from local education providers, community-based organizations and similar groups to develop and provide group occupational skills training to local residents under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.WIB Executive Director Mary Sarris said eligibility would be determined by the North Shore Career Centers, a string of job-training centers including one on Union Street in Lynn.Sealed proposals from interested contractors to develop and provide occupational skills training to individuals eligible under the Workforce Investment Act will be received and registered at the Office of the City Purchasing Agent, 120 Washington St., Salem until March 10 at 10 a.m.”Proposals should contain a description of training to be provided, including length of training, prerequisites required for acceptance into training, curriculum summary and the occupations for which successful trainees would be prepared,” said Sarris. “Occupations should be in demand in the local labor market and in career paths that lead to stable jobs with solid wages and benefits.”The request for proposals can be viewed online at www.northshorewib.comAll questions should be addressed to David McDonald at WIB.
