The Revere girls basketball team defeated Peabody 71-67 in overtime at Revere on Thursday. The Revere win means that Lynn English clinched sole possession of its second consecutive Northeastern Conference title.Peabody coach Jane Heil is very impressed with English coach Fred Hogan’s team.”It is a great accomplishment to win one NEC title, but to win two in a row is amazing. Freddy Hogan does a great job coaching and his players do a great job on the court,” Heil said.As for the game that helped English to its second straight title, Peabody (17-3) was down 56-46 going into the fourth quarter. Peabody’s Katie Brunelle hit a three pointer late in the fourth quarter to put the game in overtime. Peabody just ran out of gas when the overtime period hit. Leading the way was Hayley Dowd with 23 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists. Ginny Fleming had a strong performance with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Brittany Lefave chipped in with seven points and 10 rebounds.For Revere, Morgan Jenkins had a game high 25 points. Marissa Parent had a strong performance with 21 points. Revere ends the season at 16-4.Swampscott 56, Danvers 47At Swampscott, the Big Blue jumped out early with a 28-16 lead at the half, and never looked back. Leading the way for Swampscott was Kara Gilberg with a game high 29 points; she added five assists. Swampscott coach Jack Hughes was impressed with Gilberg and the rest of his team’s play.”Gilberg was unbelievable tonight. My team was really in control of the game the whole way and it was great to watch,” Hughes said.The Falcons had a strong performance from Kellie MacDonald with 15 points. Swampscott ended the season at 12-9.BOYS BASKETBALLSt. Mary’s 53, Swampscott 41At Swampscott, Ronsanto Campbell led the way for the Spartans. Campbell had a strong performance, recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Nick Gagliolo had a strong game with 13 points. St. Mary’s coach Kevin Moran was very happy with his team after the game.”My team played a really solid game today. It was a very competitive high school basketball game the whole way, and I’m glad my team came out on top,” Moran said.St. Mary’s ended the season at 12-8.Revere 57, Malden Catholic 54At Masco, Revere’s complete team effort was the key. Revere had all eight of its players score. Leading the way was Trae Weathers with a game high of 15 points. Will Weathers chipped in with seven points. Revere ended the season at 6-14.Everett 60, Salem 46At Everett, Everett’s dominant second half was the difference. Everett led 29-27 at the half. Everett went on to outscore Salem 31-19 in the second half. Despite the result, Salem received a big effort from Antonio Reyes with a game high of 20 points. Salem ended the season at 15-7.GIRLS HOCKEYSt. Mary’s 9, Wakefield 2At St. Mary’s, the trio of Sabrina Iannetti, Courtney Winters, and Courtney White led the way for the Spartans. Iannetti had two goals and three assists, Winters had a goal and three assists, and White had a goal and three assists. St. Mary’s ends the season at 21-0-1.
