The North Shore Navigators announced the hiring of Lynn native (and Classical graduate) Jeff Waldron as the head coach for the 2010 season yesterday.”Jeff Waldron is the right man for the Navigators, for Lynn, and for our entire organization moving forward,” general manager Peter Delani said. “His baseball pedigree ? having starred at Boston College, the Cape Cod League and in the minor leagues ? is impeccable and will play a critical role in the development of our players and the opportunities presented to them.”He was an 18th-round selection of the Boston Red Sox in 1999, after he posted impressive numbers at BC: .399 batting average, seven home runs, 33 RBI and 46 runs scored.”It was a really fast transition (getting the job offer),” said Waldron. “I had spoken with Pete a few days ago about the possibility. (Becoming the manager) wasn’t something I was considering at the time. I’m starting to familiarize myself with some of the players now. Any knowledge that I have and can pass along to them will be a good thing.”Waldron is currently serving as the assistant coach of the Classical varsity team, which he will continue to do going forward since the seasons will not overlap.”I’m still focused on Classical,” said Waldron. “We are expecting big things there.”This year’s Navigators team will feature a player Waldron is very familiar with, former Swampscott ace and current BC pitcher Hunter Gordon.
