LYNN – The GE Employees’ Good Neighbors Fund donated $100,000 Wednesday to the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and the Merrimack Valley.During a brief ceremony at the GE River Works’ Visitor Center, GE employee Joseph Gould, chairman of the employees’ fund, presented a check to Jeffery Hayward, chief of external affairs for the regional United Way.”Every GE employee gives a certain amount to the fund through their weekly check. The amount taken out is up to them,” said Gould.Wally DeGuglielmo, senior director of development for the regional United Way, said Wednesday’s contribution by the GE employees is the latest of such six-figure donations.According to Hayward, the contribution goes into the United Way’s general fund but benefits many Lynn-area programs.In addition to the United Way representatives, the ceremony was attended by GE spokesman Richard Gorham; North Shore Labor Council representative Tony Dunn; Peder Acres, vice chairman, and Kathy Hudson, secretary, respectively of the employees’ fund; and Peter Speridakis, a board member of the employees’ group.
