SALEM – Walking teams are being organized for the 18th annual Walk for HAWC that will wend its way through the streets of Salem Sunday, April 25.Proceeds from the fundraiser will help support services provided by Salem-based Healing Abuse Working for Change to individuals and families afflicted by domestic violence. The 5-mile walk through downtown begins and ends at Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Square. Live music and children’s entertainment will highlight the finish. The walk, which attracts thousands, is HAWC’s largest community awareness event and fundraiser. There are several ways to get involved. Among them: form a team of fellow employees, relatives or friends, collect pledges and walk; become a corporate sponsor and take advantage of varying visibility opportunities for your business or yourself; encourage a school youth group or other community service group to participate in the walk and receive community service hours before the school year ends.”We hope that you can help us reach our goal of raising $180,000 for HAWC’s free services and programs on the North Shore,” said Alicia Weaver, HAWC’s director of development. “If each of our supporters refers just one new walk team and one new corporate sponsor, we can reach this goal.”To register a team or corporate sponsorship for $250 to $5,000, go to HAWC’s Web site, www.helpabusedwomen.org Teams can create an online fundraising page, allowing each member to join. HAWC also has a presence on FaceBook.Registration is at 11 a.m. the day of the event. The walk steps off at noon. For more information, call HAWC at 978-744-8552.
