MARBLEHEAD – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Marblehead Flotilla 43 will offer a six-session safe boating course beginning April 6.The course, “About Boating Safety,” will be held April 6 to May 25 and is designed for power boaters. Those who complete the requirements will be awarded a certificate that allows savings on mandatory boat insurance. Classes will be held at Marblehead High School in the lecture hall on the second floor.”Operators of power boats are urged to sign up for the course, which could provide substantial savings through discounts on boat insurance for those receiving a certificate of completion,” said Henry Livingston, Flotilla 43 commander, noting that sign-up begins March 30.Topics covered include boating laws, safety equipment, navigation rules and boating problems. The fee is $40 and includes the text. A Massachusetts Youth Boating Certificate for ages 12-16 is also offered at no additional charge, according to Gary Cordette, the flotilla public affairs officer.Classes are sponsored by Flotilla 43 and taught by certified instructors. The auxiliary is a civilian, public service organization dedicated to boating safety and education. For more information or to register for the course, call 781-599-7444 or go online to http://a0130403.uscgaux.info
