Elementary tournament heads to finals

After concluding semifinal play at Pickering this past Saturday, the Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament will hold the final round on Friday.Click here for a photo gallery.The following are semifinal results:In the opening game, Sisson defeated Callahan 49-15 in Division 2 boys competition. Brendan Morris had 15 points for Sisson while Alexis Mateo added 14.In Division 1 boys, Connery edged Cobbet 26-25, getting the game-winner from Diante Johnson on a three-pointer with one minute left. Johnson led all scorers with 11. Erick Solis added eight for Connery and Anferney Ortega had 10 for Cobbet.In D3 boys, Tracy scored the last 12 points to defeat Aborn 23-15. Aborn had led 15-11 with four minutes left. Tyshawn Menter led Tracy with 10 points while Michael Brown added six. Richie Winchell scored nine for Aborn.Also in D3 boys, Washington edged Lincoln-Thomson 34-32. Lincoln-Thomson had led 18-9 at halftime, but Washington rallied thanks in part to Abraham Diaz, who scored 19 second-half points for the winners; he had 28 total. Lenny Ryan and Ezekiel Ebieshuwa added 19 and seven points, respectively.In D3 girls, Lincoln-Thomson defeated Sewell-Anderson 8-3. Four players finished with two points each for Lincoln-Thomson: Tatiana Marquez, Atavia Brown, Shaylee Hogan and Angela Unubun. Jashleen Perez had two points for Sewell-Anderson.Also in D3 girls, Aborn edged Lynn Woods 9-7, getting the winning shot from Katie Sullivan on a two-pointer with one minute left. Brittany McPherson had four points for Lynn Woods.Friday’s finals matchups for the tournament are as follows:D1 girls, Cobbet vs. Connery, 3 p.m.; D1 boys, Ford-Connery, 4 p.m.; D2 girls, Drewicz-Sisson, 5 p.m.; D2 boys, Shoemaker-Sisson, 6 p.m.; D3 girls, Lincoln-Thomson vs. Aborn, 7 p.m.; and D3 boys, Tracy vs. Washington, 8 p.m.All games are at Pickering.
