Johnny A., James Montgomery play Red Rock Bistro April 7

SWAMPSCOTT – Boston music greats Johnny A. and James Montgomery plan to team for an intimate night of songs and stories at the picturesque Red Rock Bistro in Swampscott April 7.Johnny A., the Malden-born guitarist with rock, jazz and blues influences who spent seven years touring and recording with former J. Geils front man Peter Wolf, played Red Rock years ago while on the Boston club circuit.Johnny A. released his latest alubum onn CD/DVD earlier this month, ‘One November Night,’ which was filmed/recorded at Scullers Jazz Club in Allston.”Johnny mentioned to me and the he and James were thinking about doing some small venues, where they could play some music and tell some stories, and it was his idea to play at Red Rock to give that a try,” said Red Rock owner Paul Petersiel. “These are two of the biggest names from the Boston music scene.”The energetic, harmonica-playing Montgomery is founder of the acclaimed James Montgomery Band, which he formed while attending Boston University in the 1970. He has toured with artists including Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Rait, Steve Miller and Allman Brothers.Johnny A. and The James Montgomery Band also performed a year ago to a packed house in the restored Lynn Veterans Memorial Auditorium.Petersiel said the Red Rock performance, planning for which just came together this week, will be set in the ocean-view restaurant’s Greenhouse Room.”Tickets are $30 and we’ve already sold plenty of them before word has gotten out,” Petersiel said. “We’re not going through any promoter or through Ticketmaster or anything like that ? People can just call or come in and we’ll reserve tickets for them.”Red Rock Bistro has a capacity of 175 seated but has standing room for plenty more.If You Go?The show begins at 8 p.m. that Wednesday, April 7.
