SALEM – A homeless Lynn man who allegedly brutally attacked his girlfriend in her Swampscott home earlier this year has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.William Tyrone Hall, 31, faces charges of attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property over $250.The charges concern an incident on or about Jan. 15 when he allegedly attempted to strangle his girlfriend to death in her home on Currier Court.Police received a 911 call at about 1 a.m. from the female resident who told authorities she had been severely beaten by her boyfriend.When police arrived at the scene they found the victim was bleeding severely from lacerations to her mouth. She said that Hall had beaten her and strangled her until she lost consciousness and struck her with a perfume bottle.The victim was taken to the hospital where authorities said she was having difficulty speaking because of her injuries.Hall was arrested five days later in Lynn by Swampscott and Lynn police.Hall, who formerly resided at 145 Lewis St. in Lynn, remains held without bail at the Middleton Jail after being deemed a danger.The indictments handed up now move the case from Lynn District Court, where he has pleaded innocent, to Salem Superior Court, where he will be re-arraigned within a few weeks.A conviction on the attempted murder charge carries up to 20 years in state prison.Assistant District Attorney Kate B. MacDougall is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth and Hall is represented by Attorney Randi Potash of Lynn.Also indicted was Eric Ayala, 23, of 235 Humbert Ave., #2, Roxbury, charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of armed assault with intent to rob, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon as well as assault with a dangerous weapon and violating a restraining order stemming from several incidents beginning on Dec. 29 through Dec. 31.Police say Ayala punched his girlfriend in the face on Christmas Day, took her car without her permission, prompting her to file a restraining order against him for fear.On Dec. 29 police say he robbed two males at the Cook Street playground while armed with a shotgun.One victim he allegedly hit in the face with the shotgun and the other his foot.A short time later he allegedly assaulted a man with the shotgun.The following day he allegedly robbed a cell phone, pocketbook, cash and a wallet from two women on Hesper Street in Lynn at gunpoint.On Dec. 31 police responded to a house party on Mt. Pleasant Street after Ayala had fired shots two or three times into the air with a shotgun.He was arrested by police on Jan. 1 in Boston after police tracked him down.Ayala reportedly admitted to possessing the shotgun.Police retrieved a pocketbook belonging to one of his victims from the vehicle he was driving.Indictments are not an indication of guilt. It is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court, allowing for a more severe punishment.
