Four players scored multiple goals as the Peabody High girls lacrosse team opened its season with a 13-3 win over host Cambridge at Russell Field on Wednesday.”It was not a bad start,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “It was nice to get on the field.”Katie Teixeira led Peabody with three goals and two assists. Casey Broughton, Nicole Napolitano and Brittany Lefave each had two goals and one assist. Brittany Costa made eight saves for Peabody, which led 8-1 at halftime.”We were just able to jump out early and were able to capitalize on our opportunities early,” Desroches said. “Being our first game, we were very excited going in.”S’scott 15, Melrose 11At Melrose, the Big Blue made their 7-3 halftime lead stand up despite some second-half pressure from their opponent, as well as several penalties.”We kept it together,” coach Paula Donnelly said. “We never got flustered. The penalties were more unfortunate than undisciplined.”Elise Giangregorio led Swampscott with six goals, followed by Robin Herlihy (4 goals) and Mallory McDonough (2 goals, 2 assists). Kelly Gillis made 10 saves and “they were big,” Donnelly said.The Big Blue won despite having three starters out, two due to illness. The third, Maggie Osbahr, is competing in an Irish step dancing world championship in Scotland.BOYS LACROSSEWeston 14, S’Scott 1At Weston, Tommy Ball scored an unassisted goal for the Big Blue’s lone tally in their opener. Coach Josh Field also liked what he saw from Richie Sullivan, Chris Masson and Josh Rothwell.”I think Weston’s a great team,” Field said. “They have a lot of experienced players. They’ve been playing together for a long time.”Weston led 4-0 after one and 8-0 by the break.”We have a lot of work to do when we play a game like this,” Field said. “We’re very young. The majority are sophomores and we have four seniors. We’ll take this one, move on and be positive about it.
