Lacrosse: Donovan nets four as St. Mary’s girls win

Bridget Donovan scored four goals to lead the St. Mary’s girls lacrosse team to a 16-2 win over Matignon to open the season.”The defense played well today,” Spartans coach Doug Lowe said. “We’re looking forward to some great things from them. Hopefully, we can put together another successful season.”Felicia Ruano was the only other player to score multiple goals. She had three. Nine other girls, including standout hockey player Courtney Winters, scored one goal.Hilary Duffy had a strong game in net.Fenwick 12, Austin Prep 4At Austin Prep, Becca Graves had another big day offensively with five goals. Grace Celona had three, Anna Moulton, two, and Allie Stote and Ellen O’Leary, one each. Casey Landry was in net for the win. The Crusaders, who are coming off a 16-2 season, play St. Mary’s Monday at Fenwick (6).Woburn 14, Swampscott 4At Woburn, the Big Blue (1-1) got three goals from Elise Giangregorio. Robin Herlihy scored the other goal. Casey Connolly had a strong game in net, turning away 14 shots in an emergency start.BOYS LACROSSEShawsheen 14, Tech 0At Lynn, Richard Jones-Alas had a very strong game in net for the Tigers against the perennial powerhouse Rams. He made 21 saves, all coming on excellent scoring chances.Austin Prep 15, Fenwick 2At Fenwick, Joe Flaherty and Eamon Barrett each scored a goal (Barrett also had an assist), but the Crusaders (1-3) couldn’t muster much of an attack against the Cougars.
