He went four innings, allowing one run (none earned) on seven hits, while striking out five and walking two.”Mike gave us what we needed,” Spartans coach Derek Dana said. “Turmenne came in and worked out of some tight situations and did a very nice job.”Beverly 10, Newburyport 9At Newburyport, this one had enough twists and turns to keep fans from both teams on the edge of their seats. Beverly took an early 3-0 lead, only to see the Clippers tie things up. Newburyport went up by a run, 4-3, and that’s how the game stood until the top of the sixth when Beverly scored six runs to take what appeared to be a comfortable 10-3 lead.As it turned out, no lead was safe. The Clippers came back in their half of the sixth with five runs to cut the deficit to 10-9. Newburyport threatened to put the game away in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a leadoff double, but Beverly hunkered down. The next batter popped up and the final two grounded out to shortstop Austin Butler, who made two tremendous plays to throw the runners out and save the game. Abby Tobin scored two runs on three walks and two stolen bases. Rachele Milordi took the loss, going six innings. She allowed six hits, struck out five and walked two.
