SALEM – An arrest has been made in the stabbing death of 30-year-old Shaundell Turner of Lynn, which occurred in the city’s Point neighborhood in broad daylight Wednesday.State and local police scoured the greater Boston area Thursday and located Jonathan M. Rivera, 21, of 60 Tudor St., Quincy in Quincy around 4 p.m. and charged him with murder.Salem Police Lt. Conrad Prosniewski said Rivera has a long criminal history and is well known to local police as he tends to frequent the Salem and Lynn streets.Turner, who lived at 382 Essex St. in Lynn, was stabbed to death shortly after noon following an argument with an assailant in the rough-and-tumble section a couple blocks from the ocean.Salem police said Turner’s female companion drove him from the scene of the crime near 50 Palmer St. to the police station about a half mile away. Police summoned an ambulance. Prosniewski said it was unclear why the women drove the victim to police headquarters instead of Salem Hospital. The ambulance took Turner to the hospital where he died. The emergency call to police was logged at 12:07 p.m. A woman identifying herself as an acquaintance told authorities the man had been stabbed and that she was driving him to the Police Department, according to Steve O’Connell, spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’.”The matter is under investigation by Salem police and state troopers assigned to the district attorney’s office,” O’Connell said. “The police are following leads at this point.”Prosniewski said detectives are attempting to learn what sparked the fatal argument. The woman is not a suspect in the homicide, according to Prosniewski. “We are looking for one person in particular,” he said. “We also know that the girl knew both of them.”Patrolman DeeJay Gagnon arrived at police headquarters just as the woman pulled up. He called for medical assistance, Prosniewski said.Salem Police Chief Paul F. Tucker said he was impressed by the timeliness of the investigation.”This is a tragic case for the victim’s family and friends, but thankfully the police investigation has brought the suspect to face justice,” he said.Turner attended Lynn Vocational and Technical Institute and is said to have been employed as a roofer.”We are actively pursuing some leads,” said Prosniewski. “The motive is still unclear. We’re not sure whether they were beefing with each other over a girl or whether they just didn’t like each other. There also has been talk of it being gang related, and we’re not ruling that out, but to this point there has been no direct evidence to show that it was.”The weapon has not been recovered, Prosniewski said.Friends and family gathered together on the steps of Turner’s apartment Thursday afternoon, grief stricken and in shock from the sudden death. A family member who declined to say her name said Turner was a “well loved person who will be missed.”
