It had all the earmarks of a season-opening game for the Lynn Classical baseball team on Wednesday at Fraser Field. The Rams looked to have an inaugural win against reigning Division 3 Eastern Mass. champ Georgetown set to be checked off. The Royals, though, rallied in the seventh to take an 11-8 lead.Classical would return the favor in its final at-bat as the Rams sent nine to the plate and claimed a 12-11 win on Kyle Gauthier’s walk-off single with two outs.Click here for a photo gallery.”I give my guys credit. They never quit and stepped up when they had to,” Classical coach Mike Zukowski said.Eddie Terrero (2-4, 2 RS, 2 RBI) got the final rally going with a base hit. Tyler Gauthier reached on an error before a Greg Rybak fielder’s choice put runners on the corners.Ellido Reyes followed with a double that scored both runners to cut the lead to 11-10. Freshman Kyle Devin then tied the game with a single that plated pinch runner Andrew White. A groundout was followed by walks to Billy Scuzzarella and Wilfredo Feliz that loaded the bases for Kyle Gauthier’s fourth hit of the game.”Kyle really stepped up,” Zukowski said.St. Mary’s 12, Man-Essex 3At Manchester, it was a big bounce back for the Spartans (3-1) after Monday’s loss to Arlington Catholic as they used a five-run fifth inning to blow open a 4-3 contest.”I was very happy with the way we bounced back,” St. Mary’s coach Derek Dana said. “The defense was cleaned up and our pitching gave us a chance to win.”Joe Kasper had four hits to lead the Spartan offense. Justin Sharkey was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Ryan Barrows was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.Chris Palladino and Matt Turmenne also had home runs for the Spartans.Xaverian 7, St. John’s 4At Westwood, the Eagles (0-3, 0-1 Catholic Conference) saw the hosts explode for the game’s first seven runs before coming up short in a last-ditch rally.Justin Peluso and Alex Markakis each had a pair of hits and scored a run.
