School: English boys track runs past Salem

The Lynn English boys track team took 11 event wins on Wednesday en route to a 73-54 win over Salem at Manning Field.The Bulldogs (1-1) were led by double winners Richard Kimber and Zach Adie. Kimber took first in the 100 (15.0) and 400 (59.1) hurdles while Adie claimed the 200 (22.9) and triple jump (39-0).Also taking wins for English were Melvin Tavares in the 100 (10.9); Chris Birotte, mile (5:02); Camy Ducasse, 400 (52.2); Jared Fossa, 800 (2:23.7) and Derek Stevens, shot put (43-11 1/2).Peabody 93, Beverly 38At Peabody, the Tanners (2-0) claimed 11 of 15 events, led by triple winner Edwin Mejia and double winner Evan Braz. Mejia took the 100 (16.4) and 400 (59.8) hurdles and the triple jump (41-2) while Braz won the 800 (2:06) and javelin (140-3).Also taking wins were Jamal Abu-Hijleh in the 200 (22.4); Nick Christensen, mile (4:50); Jake Pimental, 400 (53.5); Keane Terenzoni, 2-mile (10:49) and Paul Ruotolo, shot put (43-9 1/4).GIRLS TRACKSalem 73, English 53At Manning Field, Bianca Fowler had an outstanding day for English, winning the 400 (1:02), triple jump (30-8) and high jump (4-10). Also grabbing wins for the 0-2 Bulldogs were Nikki Sainton in the shot put (24-9 3/4); Alex Henry, mile (6:07) and Shakira Llewellyn, discus (69-10).GIRLS TENNISSt. Mary’s 4, Williams 1At Braintree, the Spartans (4-1) are off to a strong start. Stacey Politis won at first singles, 6-2, 6-1; Megan Fitzgerald at second singles, 6-1, 6-2; Kelsey Barrasso and Corina Tino at first doubles, 6-2, 6-0, and Nicole Ferrari-Brittany Lane at second doubles, 6-2, 6-0.BOYS TENNISSaugus 3, St. Mary’s 2At GE Field, the Spartans lost a barnburner despite strong play up and down the lineup. Kevin McCarthy and Matt McDermott won at first doubles, 7-5, 7-5 and Conor Janson-Rob Goggin won at second doubles. Dennis Bertocci, playing his first varsity match, put up a fight at third singles before losing to Saugus’ Kyle Cherry, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Brian Boyajian won at first singles for Saugus, 6-0, 6-1, and Chris DiChiara won at second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
