Track: St. Mary’s squads sweep Marian

The St. Mary’s boys and girls track teams picked up wins Tuesday with the boys defeating Marian, 73-59, and the girls defeating the Mustangs, 69-59. The meets were at Manning Field.In the boys meet, Somto Ofonogaro took first in the 100 (12.5); Ralph Bertrand, 200 (23.8); Andrew DiMaiti, 2-mile; Jameson Wadman, javelin (125 feet); D.J. Webster, shot put (31-0) and Mark Cronin, high jump (5-2). Bertrand’s time qualified him for the states. The boys are 2-1.St. Mary’s also won the 4×100 relay (.49) with the team of Todd Collier, Ofonogaro, Sam Scranton and Bertrand, and the 4×400 relay (4:42) with the team of Pat Hogan, Jack Simpson, Steve Bourque and Dominic Barceleau.In the girls meet, sophomore Brianna Anderson qualified for the states in the 100 with a winning time of 13.1 seconds. Also taking firsts were Carol DiMaiti, 200 (28.7); Bria Prophete, 100 hurdles (22.7); Maggie Carey, 800 (2:48); Rachel Faieta, shot put (23-3) and discus (60-2) and Jen Williams, triple jump (30-1) and long jump (14-6).St. Mary’s also won the 4×100 relay (57.5) with the team of Jen Williams, Kasey Wolfe, DiMaiti and Anderson, and the 4×400 (5:23) with the team of Rachel Hanlon, Maggie Carey, Chandler Cappozzi and Williams.The girls are 1-2.BOYS TRACKFenwick 82, Austin Prep 59At Fenwick, Zach Nardone took first in two events with personal best performances. He won the discus (125-3) and the javelin 151-9) and qualified for the states in both. Senior captain Tom Banks won the 400 (53.0) and the 200 (23.8); Joe O’Brien, the 2-mile (10:47) and Angelo Maida, mile (4:53); junior Bill Klemczuk, 100 hurdles (19.4). Klemczuk also took second in the high jump. Fenwick is 4-0.Peabody 87, Danvers 40At Danvers, the Tanners had three double winners including Evan Braz in the 2-mile (10:31) and javelin (139-10); Edwin Mejia, 400 hurdles (60.6) and triple jump (38-10); and Zachary Grube, high jump (5-10) and 100 hurdles (16.3). Peabody also had wins from Paul Ruotolo, shot put (43-6) and Nick Christensen, 800 (2:11.1). The Tanners (3-0) also won the 4×100 relay (46.7).Nick Amico was a double winner for Danvers in the 100 (11.6) and the 200 (23.6). Ben Pasquariello won the 400 (55.3) and the long jump (20 feet); Chris Chapruet, the mile (4:51) and Harrison Gillis, discus (116 feet). Danvers is 1-2.Marblehead 100, Classical 26At Marblehead, the Magicians (3-0) had three double winners: Jake Morris, shot put (35-3) and discus (107-9); Will Herlihy, 400 (54.1) and low hurdles (64.0); and Sam Terrill, long jump (17-3) and high jump (5-9). Marblehead had six other first-place finishes: Henry Pratt, 2-mile (11:06); Andrew DiMare, 100 (11.8); Nate Fowler, mile (5.02); Andrew Graf, 800 (2:07); Junior Okereke, 200 (23.9); and Greg Worth, javelin (130-0).Gloucester 101, Revere 30At Revere, Karim Fahila set a new school record and placed first for the Patriots (1-2) in the short hurdles (65.1). Mike Fitzpatrick finished in second place, and also broke the old school mark with a time of 65.7. Vincent DiChiara had a nice performance picking up three second place finishes – 100 (12.1), high hurdles (18.7) and high jump (5-4) – and a third place finish – javelin (124-6).GIRLS TRACKFenwick 112, Austin Prep 20At Fenwick, junior Brittany Dolan won the triple jump (30-10), the 100 hurdles (17.1) and she took second in the long jump (13-10 1/2). Faye Haley won the 400 (64.6) and the 200 (26.9) and threw an impressive 75 feet, 10 inches in her first time dong the javelin in a meet. She took third in the event.Fenwick also had good performances from senior captain Cailyn Webb, who won the long jump (13-11 1/2) and took second in the 200. Tina Moran won the shot put with a personal best 35-10. Fenwick is 4-0.Marblehead 96, Classical 38At Marblehead, the Magicians had several people come up big including Julia Kingsley, who won the long jump, triple jump, 200 and was part of the 4×100 relay that won.
