Music will be the driving force in the Ernie and the Automatics “Music Drives Us” tour at Kowloon’s on April 29 at 8 p.m.Ernie and the Automatics’ namesake is Ernie Boch Jr., the Bay State automotive giant who took the helm of the business his late father founded.Ernie Jr. graduated from Berklee College of Music and after playing guitar in a number of bands he met Sib Hashian (drums) and Barry Goudreau (guitar), both founding members of the band Boston. Together, along with saxophonist Michael “Tunes” Antunes, formerly of the John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Tim Archibald on bass and Lynn resident Brian Maes (lead vocals and keyboard), they formed Ernie and the Automatics.Hashian, who is a 1967 graduate of Lynn English High School, currently resides in Lynnfield. He joined Boston in 1975, replacing original drummer Jim Masdea. Hashian’s drumming is featured on Boston’s self titled debut album and on “Don’t Look Back.” He was the drummer on Goudreau’s self-titled solo album that was released in 1980. He went on to own a chain of tanning salons in Boston, as well as a small record store.In 2004 he appeared at the Tremont Theater for the Boston premiere of “9-Ball” which he produced along with Ernie Boch Jr. and in 2006 he recorded with Ernie and the Automatics.Ernie and the Automatics band members have collectively sold more than 30 million records and the group released its first CD “Low Expectations” in February.Also performing is Fortune, a classic rock cover band.If You Go?The Kowloon Restaurant is located on Route 1 in Saugus.
