Tennis: Classical girls get past Revere

The Classical girls tennis team evened its record at 2-2 with a 3-2 win over Revere Wednesday at Winchester Tennis Club.The match came down to first singles, where Classical’s Saska Icitovic outlasted Revere’s Elma Meskovic, 7-6 (7-3), 0-6, 7-5, in a three-hour match. Amy O’Brien won at second singles for the Rams, 6-3, 6-4, and Tara Gunderman and Ashley Ellis pulled out their match at second doubles, 6-4, 6-2. Revere had wins from Yvonne Rincon at third singles, 6-0, 7-5, and at first doubles by Jennifer Kingston and Donna Le, 7-6, 6-2.Beverly 3, Peabody 2At Peabody, the Tanners (2-1) lost 5-0 to Beverly (2-1, 2-0 NEC) both times the two teams met last season, but round 1 this season was considerably closer. Peabody’s Emily Athas won 6-2, 6-1, at second singles and Kerrianne O’Brien-Erica Reeves won a three-setter at second doubles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Beverly had wins from Sophie Blau at first singles, 6-3, 6-1; Hannah Albee at third singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Liz Zarkades-Hannah Robinson at first doubles, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).Swampscott 4, Danvers 1At Danvers, the Big Blue (2-0) picked up wins from Jen Cleary in first singles, 6-1, 6-1; Kelsey O’Brien, third singles, 6-2, 6-1; Kate Hall-Rita Tsokanis, first doubles, 6-0, 6-0, and Mara Gabe, second doubles, 6-2, 6-0.BOYS TENNISSalem 5, English 0At Salem, the Witches (2-1) swept past the Bulldogs with wins from David Chiste, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles; Jared Zengren, second singles, 6-0, 6-0; Weili Sun, third singles, 6-3, 6-4; Zack Michelini-George Alruc, first doubles, 6-4, 6-3, and Jorge Barzola-Kevin Lam at second doubles, 6-4, 6-3.Revere 3, Classical 2At Classical, the Patriots swept the singles matches, but the Rams came back to win the doubles. Peter Rondeau-David Raymond won 6-2, 6-3, at first doubles and Patrick Strong-Brian Renderos won 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2.For Revere, it was Francisco Tartaglia (6-0, 6-0), Malak Mossadek (6-0, 6-1) and Richard Bonilla (6-0, 6-0).Danvers 3, Swampscott 2At Swampscott, the Big Blue picked up both their wins in doubles with Kevin McManus-Mike Olszak winning 6-4, 6-3, and Mike DeSantis-Kyle Lally winning 6-4, 6-4. Danvers had its wins in singles with Gabe Ochonski at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1; Josh Lunders, second singles, 6-1, 6-3, and Sam Crimmins, 6-1, 6-0.Beverly 3, Peabody 2At Peabody, the Tanners (2-1) picked up wins from Vinnie McMahan at third singles, 6-2, 6-2 and from Sean McGlone and Ryan McGlone at second doubles, 6-3, 6-1. Mike Warran lost a three-hour battle in the deciding match at second singles, 6-7, 6-3, 6-7.
