Roundup: Padovani’s big day propels Lynnfield past Pentucket

Dante Padovani did everything but carry the equipment bag for the Lynnfield baseball team on Saturday against Pentucket.Padovani twirled a gem on the mound, holding the Sachems to two hits over seven innings, while also collecting three hits, three RBI and three runs scored as the Pioneers rolled to a 14-0 win.It was far from a one-man effort on Saturday for Lynnfield. Chris Grassi and Pete Franchi had two hits and two runs scored each while Chris Klotzbier had two hits and drove home a run.Sam Oliveri added a pair of RBI and Mike Pescione had an RBI triple in the fifth inning.Everett 9, English 3At Fraser Field, the Bulldogs (3-2) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening inning but watched as Everett piled on eight runs in the top of the second to put the game out of reach.”That second inning just killed us,” English coach Joe Caponigro said. “We made a couple of errors and they proved to be costly.”St. John’s 18, Arlington 2At Gibbons Field in Danvers, the Eagles (4-3) completed a perfect vacation week by dispatching the Spy Ponders.Alex Markakis had a 3-run homer to help lead the Prep’s offensive outburst. Kevin Davis, Pat Connaughton and Tyler Coppola had three hits apiece.Anthony Capuano had a pair of doubles and Rob Atkin added two hits. Joe McCaffery went the first four innings, recording the win, with Markakis hurling the last three.Fenwick 5, Austin 4DH Brian Church led the Crusaders (5-3, 4-2) with two RBI while teammates Pat Barrett and Joe Bona had one each. Church and Barrett each went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Mike Davis went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Michael Cipriani went 1-for-1 with a run scored. Pitcher Zach Brian (CG, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 6 K) got the win and scored a run as well.Fenwick lost to Gloucester, 12-0, on Saturday. The Crusaders defeated Arlington Catholic 4-3 on Friday.GIRLS LACROSSESt. Mary’s 20, Lowell Cath. 10At Manning Field, Liz Giacchino had four goals and an assist as the Lady Spartans (6-0) continued their early season blitz of the competition. Mackenzie Mackin and Hannah Quinn added a goal and an assist each.St. Mary’s is back in action tonight (7) when it plays Swampscott at Manning.BOYS LACROSSELynnfield 16, Fenwick 7At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (6-1) got the best of the Crusaders for the second time over vacation week as eight different players recorded goals.Jake Panzini and Tim LaMusta had a hat trick and two assists each to lead the offense. A.J. Roberto also recorded a hat trick and Shane McRae added two tallies. Jon Tremblay, Joe Hennessey and George Hennessey also had goals.Lynnfield led 6-3 at halftime before blowing the game wide open in the third quarter.St. John’s 8, Lexington 4At Arlington, the Prep (8-1) completed a 4-0 week despite getting off to a very ragged start against the Spy Ponders on Saturday.”We definitely had to get back into the game in the second half but we righted the ship by the fourth quarter,” St. John’s coach John Roy said.Bobby Gallahue had a hat trick to lead the St. John’s offense. Garrett Campbell added a pair of goals while Jimmy O’Connelly, Pete Cahill and Mark MacDonald had one goal each.
