Phunk Phenomenon dance competition Saturday night at Lynn Auditorium

LYNN ? Phunk Phenomenon will get down in an urban dance competition featuring more than eight dance teams at Lynn Memorial Veterans Auditorium Saturday at 6 p.m.?Prelude New England Urban Dance Competition” is a production of Phunk Phenomenon, an Everett-based urban dance school. The Phunk Phenomenon dance company was founded in 1995 by Reia Briggs-Connor, a former New England Patriots Cheerleader, as a way to reach out to young people through urban dance. It is made up of five “crews” separated by age.Phunk Phenomenen and Lil Phunk, which is the official junior dance team for the Boston Celtics, are featured performers along with DraZtik Crew and Static Noyze.Phunk Phenomenon Dance Crew members from Lynn include Christopher Dinicola, Trey Rich, Nikko Rich and Devin Woolridge.Lil Phunk crew members from Lynn are Nashaun Butler, Cierra Thomas, Beri Letts and Grace Lermond. Teams from across the United States and Canada are scheduled to compete including The Family from Montreal, Dysfunktional Solez from the Bronx, Milwaukee-based Colossal Connekcion, HellooHi Crew from Rhode Island and several others.In 2007, Briggs-Connor and her husband Rick Connor, who is also the manager of Phunk Phenomenon, learned their 2-year-old suffers from a rare genetic disorder called San Filippo. Since his diagnosis, every performance by Phunk Phenomenon has helped raise awareness for the disease. Tickets for the event are $20 at the door.
