Lacrosse: St. Mary’s girls lacrosse team remains undefeated

The St. Mary’s girls lacrosse team put its undefeated season on the line Thursday at Salem, and the Spartans stayed perfect with a 16-11 victory.”The girls did a good job today against a solid Salem team,” St. Mary’s coach Doug Lowe said. “My team did a good job keeping its focus.”Leading the way for the Spartans (8-0) was Bridget Donovan with six goals. The other St. Mary’s players who helped Donovan were: Courtney Winters (3 goals, 1 assist); Felicia Ruano (2 goals); Marisa Maccario (2 goals); Mikaela Donovan (1 goal); Molly Carey (1 goal, 4 assists) and Liz Giacchino (1 goal, 1 assist). Hillary Duffy had a strong game in net with 12 saves.Fenwick 20, Matignon 6At Matignon, Fenwick had nine different players get in on the scoring outburst. Leading the way for Fenwick (6-2) was Becca Graves with a team high of six goals. The rest of the multi-goal scorers for Fenwick were: Grace Cellona (3 goals); Ellen O’Leary (3 goals); Allie Stote (2 goals) and Erin Botticelli (2 goals).Ipswich 20, Beverly 9At Ipswich, Beverly had a strong offensive display despite the result. Leading the way for Beverly was the duo of Clare Leathersich and Mary Accomando. Leathersich scored five goals and Accomando scored four for Beverly (0-9).BOYS LACROSSEDanvers 20, Saugus 4At Stackpole Field, Dylan Hartigan and Nick Taylor each had two goals and one assist for Saugus (1-7).Williams 12, St. Mary’s 3At Williams, Matt Molloy (1 goal) and Tim Aylward (2 goals) scored for St. Mary’s (1-8). The Spartans received some good play in net from Don Hesse (15 saves), and Chris Delvecchio (5 saves).Gloucester 11, Swampscott 0At Gloucester, Will Decker (4 goals) and Jeff Kennedy (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Fishermen (6-2). John Jerymn and David Greenleaf both had one goal and two assists each. Playing well on the defensive side were Jeff Laine, Dan Martin, Jared Wright, and goalie Tyler Abeyy.
