Classical girls come up aces against Saugus

The Lynn Classical girls tennis team continued its stellar play of late on Wednesday at Breed Middle School by grabbing a 4-1 win over Saugus.”The girls played well (Wednesday),” Classical coach Tom Clark said.The Rams (5-3) blitzed their way through the singles matches as Safka Ictiovic won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles; Amy O’Brien was a 6-3, 7-6 winner at second singles and Amanda Pearson won 7-6, 6-2 in third singles.The second doubles team of Vania Aguilar-Nancy Figueroa completed the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win in their first varsity match.Arl. Cath. 3, St. Mary’s 2At GE Field in Lynn, the Spartans (7-4) got a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win from Stacey Politis at first singles and a 6-4, 6-4 win from Kelsey Barrasso-Corinna Pinto in first doubles against the Cougars.Marblehead 5, English 0At Marblehead, the Magicians (7-1) didn’t drop a set in dropping the Bulldogs. Julia Burke won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles; Mary Lindsay Ryan won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and Julia Zoltzman took a 6-4, 6-1 win in third singles. Lindsey Cohen-Annie Ryan won 6-0, 6-0 in first doubles and Morgan Sharriot-Meghan Gabel won 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles.Swampscott 5, Salem 0At Swampscott, the Big Blue (8-0) warmed up for today’s battle with unbeaten Lynnfield by breezing past the Witches. Jen Cleary and Michelle Magdalovich won their first and third singles matches, 6-1, 6-0, while Kara Gilberg won 6-1, 6-1 in second singles.Kelsey O’Brian-Shannon Toner and Alicia Coyle-Danica Villanueva won the doubles matches, 6-1, 6-1.Lynnfield 4, Rockport 1At Rockport, the Pioneers (6-0) got a challenge from an improved Rockport team but still were able to prevail. Allison Bodek won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles; Jordan Miller was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in second singles and Tori Copelas had to win a third set tiebreaker to claim the third singles match.Julia Broding-Eva Grava won 6-3, 7-5 in first doubles.Gloucester 3, Peabody 2At Peabody, the two teams battled for over three hours before the visitors prevailed. Emily Athas won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles and Kerrianne O’Brien-Erica Reeves won 6-4, 6-1 at second doubles to provide the Peabody wins.The match of the day was at first singles as Olivia Lufkin bested Peabody’s Alaina Warren, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in a marathon match.Fenwick 5, Williams 0At Peabody, the Crusaders (7-3) got wins from Lizzie Trainor, 6-2, 6-0 at first singles; Caroline Trainor, 6-0, 6-0 in second singles; Meredith Maguire, 6-2, 6-2 at third singles; Liz Sears-Demi Velonis, 6-0, 6-1 at first doubles and Stella James-Sarah Green, 6-2, 6-1, at second doubles.BOYS TENNISSaugus 4, Classical 1At Saugus, the Sachems swept the doubles and took two of three singles matches. Chris DiChiara won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles; Kyle Cherry won 6-0, 7-5 at third singles; Sean Durant-Rob Snow won 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles and Joe Malanaphy-Matt Perry won 6-0, 6-3 at second doubles.Classical’s win came via a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win from Larry Cheung in first singles.Arl. Cath. 3, St. Mary’s 2At Arlington, the Spartans (4-5) swept the doubles to take their two points. Matt McDermott-Kevin McCarthy won 6-0, 6-2 in first doubles and Conor Jansen-Rob Goggan won 6-2, 6-1 at first doubles.Peabody 5, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, it was an easy day for the 6-2 Tanners. Cody Famiglietti won 6-1, 6-4 at first singles; Mike Warren won 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 at second singles; Vinny McMahan won 6-0, 6-4 at third singles; Dimitri Kritikos-Nico DiSalvo won 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and Ryan-Sean McGlone won 6-1, 6-0 at second doubles.Pentucket 4, Lynnfield 1At Lynnfield, James Hook and Andrew Travisewski won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at second doubles to give Lynnfield (2-5) its lone point.St. John’s (S) 4,St. John’s (D) 1At Shrewsbury, the Eagles (9-2) got its only win at third singles as Brad Noyes stayed undefeated with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win.Danvers 4, Revere 1At Danvers, the Falcons (7-4) got their wins from Gabe Ochonski at first singles, 6-0, 6-1; Matt Arias won 6-2, 6-1 at second singles; Kevin McManus-Mike Olszak and Mike DeS
