SWAMPSCOTT – Police are still investigating an incident that left a bicyclist injured after a close call with a police cruiser.According to Detective Ted Delano, on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 12:30 Officer Michael Serino was pulling out of the Fish House parking lot when a bicyclist riding on the sidewalk slammed on his brakes to avoid the police cruiser.Delano said Nicola Dinunvio, 49, of Malden was riding on the sidewalk against traffic when he slammed on his brakes to avoid Serino’s cruiser, which was inching towards the exit of the parking lot.”Officer Serino was in the area responding to a medical aid,” Delano said. “Officer Serino activated his siren three times as he approached the sidewalk from the parking lot. The bicyclist was coming from the opposite direction and was riding on the sidewalk. The bicyclist slammed on his brakes, flew over the handlebars, injuring his shoulder.”Delano said Dinunvio was not struck by the patrol car and he suffered non-life threatening injuries.Delano urged bicyclists to follow the rules of the road, which include riding with traffic and staying off the sidewalks.
