School: Peabody girls lacrosse defeats Cambridge

Brittany Lefave scored five goals for Peabody’s girls lacrosse team in a 16-5 win over Cambridge Monday that clinched a tournament berth.”We’re very excited,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “Heading into the season we heard a lot of talk about a rebuilding year. Well, the girls never bought into that and took a lot of pleasure in proving people wrong.”Katie Teixeira scored four goals; Casey Broughton scored three. Both girls added two assists. Nicole Napolitano, Amanda Nihan, Ashley Muse and Demi Votto each scored a goal.St. Mary’s 16, Lowell Catholic 6At Lynn, Molly Carey had five goals and an assist for the Spartans (12-0). Bridget Donovan had three goals; Marisa Maccario, Mia Maccario and Mikaela Donovan each added two goals. Gabby Crugnale and Hannah Quinn each scored a goal. Brooke Bergeron had nine saves.Fenwick 18, Williams 8At Braintree, the Crusaders (9-4) clinched their third straight tournament berth. Becca Graves had eight goals and four assists; her season totals are 82 goals and 14 assists. Grace Celona (4 goals) and Ellen O’Leary and Anna Moulton, (3 goals each) also helped Fenwick. Casey Landry (12 saves) got the win.BOYS LACROSSENortheast 8, Tech 7At Manning Field, the Tigers (0-8) played their best second half in a long time, coach Jay Richards said. Northeast led 6-3 in the third quarter, but Tech closed the gap to one before running out of time. Jason Grant, Jake O’Neil and Shaun Norris each had two goals for Tech; Thomas Constantine added the other. Chan San had two assists.Peabody 18, Saugus 6At Stackpole Field, Peabody’s Greg Shidler (5 goals, 3 assists), Buddy Koziniski (5 goals) and Matt Rodgers (3 goals, 4 assists) led the Tanners (5-7) with Gonzalo Tolosa (assist, 14 ground balls) also playing well.Nick Taylor had three goals for the Sachems (2-10). Dylan Hartigan (goal, assist); Nick Benoit (goal, assist) and Dan Sheehan (goal) also found the net.Williams 16, Fenwick 11At Peabody, senior Joe Flaherty (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Crusaders (4-11) on senior night. Classmate Brian Saxton scored a goal. Andrew Ruby, Eamon Barrett and Brian Williams each added two goals. Ruby had two assists; Barrett had five assists. Fenwick had four other seniors playing: Colby Dobrusin, Nicholas Roth, Joseph Terry and Brian Bell.Marblehead 12, Swampscott 0At Marblehead, Pat Grady scored four goals for the Magicians (9-3). Jacob Maselek had three goals; Brian Gellert finished with a pair of goals.BOYS TRACKMarblehead 101, Winthrop 21At Marblehead, Jake Smith was a double winner for the Magicians (6-0): 400 hurdles (61.3) and 110 hurdles (16.1). Nikolai Etholm won the 400 (53.9); Mike Harper won the 800 (2:13).Hamilton-Wenham 101, Lynnfield 44Wilmington 94, Lynnfield 51At Lynnfield, Steve Knox won two events in both meets: shot put (43-6) and discus (126-7). Dave Ernest won an event in both meets: pole vault (11-0).Lynnfield won three events against Wilmington: Eddie Moore, 400 hurdles (64.6); Steve Carangelo, 200 (23.7); and Andrew Milinazzo, triple jump (37-8). Carangelo, Ernest, Connor Dario and Knox won the 4×100 relay against Hamilton-Wenham (49.2).GIRLS TRACKMarblehead 83, Winthrop 39At Marblehead, Claire Depew, Chloe Heskett and Madeline Piela all crossed the finish line at the same time in the 2-mile for the Magicians. Marina Hare won the shot put and discus. Marblehead had six other event wins: Danielle Cohen, javelin; Lillie Johnston, mile; Emma McGuirk, 200; Julia Kingsley, triple jump; Courtney Maher, 800; and Sarah Bittermann, 400.VOLLEYBALLSt. John’s 3, Billerica 0At Danvers, the Eagles’ (15-1) Luka Ralic had another big day with 18 assists. Andrew Lutz chipped in with 12 kills.
