SALEM – A Lynn team led by Laura Walsh was among the top three fundraisers in the 2010 Walk For HAWC.The team captained by Walsh brought in $8,389.The other top teams were the Friends and Family of Kim Pelusi, captained by the Rev. George Stevens from St. John’s Church in Beverly Farms, which raised $8,075, and the team UU Wanna Walk, captained by Ben Waxman from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Salem, raising $4,198.Adria Leach from the Salem State College President’s Office staff won the two tickets to see the Boston Red Sox in August. Leach, of Salem, raised more than $500 for HAWC’s annual Walk in April. Leach walked for HAWC on Sunday, April 25 as a member of the Salem State College Team.Leach first became involved with HAWC in 2008 when Salem State College President Patricia Meservey served as the honorary event chairman.Salem State was also recognized at the walk for having the largest team this year, with 65 walkers comprised of students, faculty, staff and alumni, according to HAWC Assistant Director of Development Alicia Weaver.”We’re so grateful to those who came out to support HAWC at our walk this year. We have raised over $145,000 so far, and donations are still coming in each day,” she said.HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) provides free emergency shelter and counseling services to victims of domestic violence and their children in 23 cities and towns across the North Shore, as well as a 24-hour hotline and advocacy in the courts.
