Tennis: Lynnfield girls top Beverly

The Lynnfield girls tennis team made it a clean sweep over Beverly with a 4-1 win at Beverly Golf & Tennis.The teams met earlier in the season with the Pioneers pulling out a 3-2 win. They had a little more breathing room in round 2.Allison Bodek won at first singles, 6-1, 6-1; Tori Copelas at third singles, 6-2, 6-3; Julie Broding-Ava Grava, first doubles, 6-3, 6-3, and Alicia Leone-Courtney McQueen, second doubles, 6-1, 6-2.English 5, Winthrop 0At Breed Middle School, the Bulldogs had a strong team effort across the board. Winthrop had an undermanned team, and had to forfeit two of the matches. The winners for English were: Anjeza Beharaj, first singles (6-1, 6-0); Tanh Bui, second singles (6-0, 6-0); Daniella Carische and Scarlet Santana, first doubles (6-1, 6-0). English (2-6) plays Beverly Saturday.Austin Prep 4, St. Mary’s 1At Austin Prep, the Spartans had a strong team performance despite the result. Winning for St. Mary’s was Megan Fitzgerald, in second singles (6-3, 6-2). Also playing very well for the Spartans was Cindy Garcia and Emily Hatchouel in second doubles. St. Mary’s is now 10-5.Revere 4, Salem 1At Salem, the Patriots (4-6) picked up wins from Elma Maskovic at first singles, 6-2, 6-0; Victoria Mauro, second singles, 6-1, 6-4; Yvonne Rincon, third singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Jennifer Kingston-Donna Le, 6-1, 6-3.BOYS TENNISSt. Mary’s 5, English 0At St. Mary’s, English had a strong team effort despite the result. Playing very well for the Bulldogs was Kerlay Der, who just came up short against Grant McKinnon in third singles (7-6, 6-2). The other winners for St. Mary’s were: Dennis Bertocchi, first singles (6-2, 6-0); Peter Louvaris, second singles (6-1, 6-0); Kevin McCarthy and Matt McDermott, first doubles (6-2, 6-0); Conor Jansen and Rob Goggin, second doubles (6-0, 6-0). St. Mary’s is now 6-5.Peabody 5, Saugus 0At Peabody, the Tanners (7-4) snapped a two-match losing streak with wins from Cody Famiglietti at first singles, 6-2, 6-3; Mike Warren, second singles, 6-2, 6-1; Matt Remon, third singles, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4; Nick DiSalvo-Dimitri Kritikos, 6-4, 7-6, and Sean McGlone-Vinnie McMahan, 6-1, 7-5.Salem 4, Revere 1At Salem, Malak Mossadek had the lone win for Revere (2-8), taking third singles, 6-0, 6-2.
