School Roundup: Fenwick pitcher Davis no-hits Worcester North

Mike Davis, a junior from Peabody, pitched a no-hitter to lead Fenwick’s baseball team past Worcester North 6-0 on Saturday.”(Davis) had struggled in his first two outings,” Crusaders coach Russ Steeves said. “It doesn’t get much better than that. We needed him to get some confidence because we need that third arm (in the rotation) down the road.”Davis struck out 12, while walking none in the no-hitter. Worcester North got several baserunners via errors.Davis also had a big day at the plate. He was the only Crusader (13-5) who had a multiple-hit game, and he knocked in two runs.Dave Ruggiero hit a solo home run. Jake Bugler and Zach Brian knocked in the other runs.Lynnfield 7, Rockport 3At Rockport, Pete Franchi was a force at the plate for the Pioneers (6-9). He was a double away from recording a cycle, had a stolen base and scored a pair of runs. Dante Padovani threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs on six hits, while striking out four. Sam Olivieri had a pair of RBI singles.Everett 4, Classical 2At Everett, Greg Rybak struck out six, while only walking two and allowing five hits for the Rams (5-9). He only allowed two earned runs. Brian Powers and Kyle Devin both hit RBI singles to lead the offense.St. Mary’s 10, East Boston 3At Fraser Field, the Spartans (10-4, 6-4 CCL) led 6-1 after one inning. St. Mary’s got key contributions from Alex Glover (1-3, 2 RS), Joe Kasper (1-3, RS, RBI), Alex Fiste (1-3, 2 RBI) and Justin Sharkey (1-4, 2 RBI). Mike Scanlon (5 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 5 BB) drew the start.Salem 15, Revere 2At Revere, Dario Medrano had a monster game at the plate for the Witches (8-6, 7-5 Northeastern Conference). The junior went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI. Max Feeley went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and RBI. Sean Linehan went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Linehan also had a strong game on the mound. He threw six innings, only allowing one unearned run on four hits, while striking out six and walking two.SOFTBALLSt. Mary’s 10, Dracut 9 (8 innings)At Dracut, the Spartans (13-2) scored three runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Sabrina Iannetti went 2-for-2 with a pair of triples and two runs scored, including the game-winner. Ariel LaRosa went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Michelle Macchione went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Erin McAndrews hit a pair of RBI sac flies, including the game-winner.GIRLS LACROSSESt. Mary’s 10, Salem 8At Lynn, Molly Carey led the offense with three goals and an assist. Gabby Crugnale added a pair of goals. Mia Maccario, Courtney Winters, Felicia Ruano, Sarah Foss and Hannah Quinn all scored solo goals. Maccario and Winters added a pair of assists, while Ruano and Foss each had one. Hilary Duffy made 11 saves.The Spartans (15-0) will play for the conference title today against Arlington Catholic.BOYS LACROSSEMarblehead 12, Swampscott 4At Salem, Patrick Kennedy, Tommy Ball, Colby Wollerscheid and Richie Sullivan all scored for the Big Blue (4-9). Buddy Nestor turned away 11 shots in his first-ever game between the pipes.VOLLEYBALLSt. John’s 3, Central Catholic 0At Lawrence, the Eagles (18-1) won the games 25-14, 25-20 and 25-21. Luka Ralic finished with 32 assists, while Andrew Lutz added 14 kills.
