For the second consecutive year, an undefeated Fenwick girls track team faced off against a fellow undefeated Spellman squad in the final dual meet of the season for the conference title. For the second straight year the two teams ran to a 68-68 tie.”I’m so proud of them,” Fenwick coach Jay Smith said. “They did not let down from the success over the weekend (competing in the State Relays) and kept the appropriate level of intensity.”The meet came down to the final event ? long jump. Senior captain Cailyn Webb needed at least a second place finish to earn the tie and did just that with her jump of 14-11.Sophomore Faye Haley had a huge day, as she earned first-place finishes in the javelin (91-10) and 800 (2:29). She also anchored the winning 4×400 relay team (4:22). Marial Quezada, Kelly Moran and Marissa O’Brien were her teammates.Fenwick had two more double winners: Brittany Dolan, triple jump (31-6) and high hurdles (16.6); and Tina Moran, shot put (33-11) and discus (106-10).The senior class finishes with an impressive record of 25-1-2 in dual meets, with their only loss coming back in their freshman year.Williams 90, St. Mary’s 43At Braintree, Brianna Anderson earned a pair of first place finishes for the Spartans (5-5): 100 (13.2) and long jump (14-0). St. John’s had a pair of double winners: Sean Enos, shot put (47-6) and discus (142-4); and George Sessoms, 100 (11.2) and 200 (22.5). The Eagles had seven more first-place finishes: Scott Sheehan, javelin (142-6); Mike Hayes, high hurdles (16.4); Mike Gallasso, intermediate hurdles (59.3); Jack Durkin, high jump (5-10); Joey Dumas, long jump (19-1); Taewook Ha, triple jump (39-11 3/4); and John Flanagan, mile (4:33.5).Spellman 77, Fenwick 59At Peabody, senior captain Tom Banks had a great day in his final dual meet.
