LYNN – Aborn School students Lexi Piers and Lily Guarette were selected as regional winners in the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s United States 2010 Census Poster Contest, which is geared towards explaining the importance of the Census to children and their communities. The students were guided throughout the course of the project by art teacher Rebecca White.”I am ecstatic, White said. “The kids in Lynn have a low budget in art and it is really great to see the work they do in art getting recognized because they work really hard with what little materials they have. Every kid in the school did the contest and the kids voted themselves who deserved to be submitted in the contest.”Piers and Guarette, along with White and two family members each, will be bringing their posters with them to an awards ceremony and luncheon at the State House today.”I am delighted for them,” said principal Anne Graul. “They all took it very seriously and worked on the posters. It is wonderful for them to get the recognition, wonderful that the whole school took part and the posters helped to raise awareness in the school as to the importance of the census.”
