Dukakis, Nicholas address Salem State 2010 graduates

Lynn Nicholas, president and chief executive officer of the Massachusetts Hospital Association was the Salem State commencement speaker at its afternoon graduation exercises Saturday.The ceremony was for baccalaureate graduates of the Bertolon School of Business and the Schools of Human Services.Nicholas was named by Women’s Business Boston as one of “Five Women to Watch” in 2008. She serves on the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Task Force on Community Benefits, the Governor’s Special Commission on Healthcare Payment Reform and on numerous other boards, advisory committees and philanthropic leadership committees.Prior to assuming her current position in 2007, she served as president and chief operating officer of the New Jersey Hospital Association, president and CEO of the Louisiana Hospital Association, and CEO of the American Diabetes Association.Nichols, along with James Ansara and Karen Ansara, will receive honorary degrees. The student speaker was Cornelius A. Metili, a nursing degree recipient from Lynn.During Saturday’s morning exercises for students from the School of Arts and Sciences, former Gov. Michael S. Dukakis was the keynote speaker. Dukakis, along with Carole Simpson and Dr. Mallika Marshall received honorary degrees.
