MARBLEHEAD-You can say one thing for retired Director of Public Works Dana Snow – he knows how to make an exit.Snow appeared before selectmen last week with Water and Sewer Commissioners F. Carlton Siegel and Wilbur Bassett and new Assistant DPW Director Charles R. McCollum to show the board members a Public Water System Award that the local Water and Sewer Department received from the Department of Environmental Protection. The award was for outstanding performance and achievements in 2009. Marblehead was one of 35 Massachusetts communities out of 200 to receive this award. At the award ceremony on the first Tuesday in May the commission also received citations from the State House and the Senate. The board followed that announcement with the reading of a formal proclamation in recognition of Snow?s March 26 retirement from the Highway Department and Water and Sewer Department, and his many years of service to the town.New Selectmen Chairman James Nye praised the Water and Sewer Department for their share of the town?s response to the water crisis that occurred during the first week of May.?I see my name a lot, but nothing happens without a good team, and you?ll see a good team continue,” Snow said.Snow was employed by the town for 37 years, including his last 25 years as head of the water and sewer department. Three years ago – on March 26, 2007 – he became head of the highway department as well, when the departments merged to become the town?s department of public works. The new DPW Director is Snow?s former assistant, David Donahue.
