Tennis: Lynnfield girls rebound against North Andover

Lynnfield’s girls tennis team got back on the winning track after watching a 57-match winning streak in the Cape Ann League snapped last week to Manchester-Essex. The Pioneers defeated North Andover 4-1.The Pioneers (11-2, 9-1 CAL) won all of the matches in straight sets: Alison Bodek, first singles, 6-2, 6-3; Tori Copelas, third singles, 7-5, 6-1; Julia Broding and Ava Grava, first doubles, 6-2, 6-1; and Alicia Leone and Courtney McQueen, second doubles, 6-2, 6-4.Swampscott 5, Winthrop 0At Winthrop, the Big Blue (16-0) took all of the matches in straight sets: Kara Gilberg, first singles, 6-0, 6-0; Alana Bolan, second singles, 6-0, 6-2; Kate Hall and Mara Gabe, first doubles 6-0, 6-0; and Hannah Bishop and Ashley Petras, second doubles, 6-2, 6-3. The Vikings forfeited third singles.Peabody 5, Salem 0At Peabody, Alaina Warren won the first singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. The Tanners bettered their record to 13-4 on the season.Marblehead 5, Danvers 0At Danvers, the Magicians (13-3) took all of the matches in straight sets: Julia Burke, first singles, 6-0, 6-0; Mary Lindsay Ryan, second singles, 6-2, 6-1; Julia Zaltsman, third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Annie Ryan and Lindsey Cohen, first doubles, 6-0, 6-2; and Kelsey Davis and Hannah Solomon, second doubles, 6-1, 6-1.Revere 4, English 1At Winchester, it took three sets for Jennifer Kingston and Donna Le to win in first doubles for the Patriots (7-7). The pair won 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Revere took all of the singles competition in straight sets: Elma Meskovic, first, 6-1, 6-3; Victoria Mauro, second, 6-2, 6-2; and Yvonne Rincon, third, 6-3, 6-1.Beverly 5, Classical 0At Lynn, Sheba Neak and Stella Athanasopoulos put together a valiant effort in first doubles for the Rams (9-8), but lost to Liz Zarkades and Hannah Robinson, 2-6, 7-5, 3-6.BOYS TENNISSwampscott 3, Winthrop 2At Swampscott, Jeremy Rosen and Matt Gilberg were taken to the limit, but earned the deciding win in second doubles: 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-2. The Big Blue’s (12-5, 12-3 NEC) two other wins came in straight sets: Val Temin, first singles, 6-3, 6-3; Josh Lunder and Sam Crimmins, first doubles, 6-3, 6-0.Peabody 4, Salem 1At Salem, the brothers tandem of Sean and Ryan McGlone won second doubles in impressive fashion: 6-4, 6-2. Matt Renon and Nico DiSalvo were taken to the limit in first doubles: 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. The Tanners (11-4) got straight-set victories in second and third singles: Mike Warren, second, 6-0, 6-1; and Vinnie McMahan, third, 6-2, 6-2.Marblehead 5, Danvers 0At Marblehead, the Magicians remained perfect on the season (14-0). They won all of their matches in straight sets: Justin Hyte, first singles, 6-2, 6-0; Tyler Gelineau, second singles, 6-3, 6-0; Ian Hyte, third singles, 6-1, 6-1; Ryan Dempsey and Dylan White, first doubles, 6-1, 6-0; and Seamus McGuire and Jonah Katz, second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.North Andover 3, Lynnfield 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (4-10) won both doubles matches. Andy Durkee and Nick Romano persevered from losing the first set 0-6, to win the match: 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. James Hook and Andrew Fabiszewski won the second doubles match in straight sets: 6-4, 6-0.Watertown 4, St. Mary’s 1At Watertown, Conor Jansen and Rob Goggin battled for the Spartans’ (9-6) lone win in second doubles: 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.Beverly 5, Classical 0At Beverly, Larry Cheung had a strong performance in a losing effort for the Rams (12-5).
