NAHANT – The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will present its final plans for the Nahant Causeway rehabilitation project this evening. The DCR will go over the plans and timing for the project at the meeting, which is scheduled to run from 7-8:30 p.m. in Nahant Town Hall, 334 Nahant Road.According to the DCR, the $20 million construction project is expected to get under way this month and it would take approximately three years to complete. The groundbreaking was originally scheduled for last summer but it was delayed because the DCR’s Capital Spending Plan had not been approved.DCR Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan Jr. said the project would do more than just improve public safety.”The work will improve not only the safety and functional issues along the causeway, but also the visual quality and character of the (Nahant Beach) Reservation,” he said.According to the DCR, the goals of the project are to rehabilitate the roadway, make the Nahant Beach Reservation more identifiable and implement the best storm water management practices. The plan includes refurbishing the roadway, upgrading the drainage systems along the Causeway and repairing the seawall.
