LYNN – Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach and the East Lynn Community Association are working together on “Sweep to the Sea,” which is scheduled for June 12 with a rain date of June 19.The event will include neighborhood and park cleanups followed by a cookout and live music at Red Rock Park.”Sweep to the Sea” is an inaugural event for the ELCA Lynn Clean and Beautiful campaign.ELCA President Mary Trahan said the group is thrilled to be working with FLNB.”I’m so glad the Friends (of Lynn and Nahant Beach) have agreed to take us under their wing,” she said. “As a small and relatively new non-profit organization we couldn’t do it by ourselves. We thought that having volunteers meet at city hall and fanning out along pre-determined routes to pick up street trash would be a great idea.”FLNB President Robert Tucker, who is also the deputy director of the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission, added the partnership makes sense for both groups.”The Friends are holding their annual beach cleanup on June 12,” he said. “So when Mary Trahan of the ELCA approached me with their plans to have a city wide cleanup on that day with food and music later at Red Rock Park, I thought it made a lot of sense for us to work together.”Registration for “Sweep to the Sea” will start at City Hall at 9:30 a.m. with opening remarks from Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy and other city officials at 10 a.m.Teens under age 18 will need parental consent to participate and youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
