LYNN – City officials concerned about dilapidated conditions along stretches of Fayette Street are holding a Trash Bash cleanup day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.The initiative is sponsored by the Lynn Housing and Neighborhood Development (LHAND), in partnership with Mayor Judy Flanagan Kennedy, Ward 2 Councilor William Trahant Jr. and Neighborhood Development Associates. The cleanup is centered at 145 Fayette St. and volunteers can help scour the neighborhood as well as their own yards. Dumpsters will be available and used for free.”Meet your neighbors. Get extra help to clean your yard,” said Erin Ford, special projects coordinator at LHAND. “Rakes, trash bags, barrels and other tools will be provided for your use. Dumpsters will be available for the bigger stuff.”LHAND staff members will attend the event and offer information to residents on how to improve their homes. Television sets and computer monitors can be disposed of for $10 each, propane tanks for $5. Information on rodent control will also be dispensed, explaining how the problem is exacerbated by tall grass and weeds, abandoned cars and appliances, stacks of lumber and improperly stored trash.Fayette Street has been on the list of LHAND initiatives, targeted for a general cleanup and an in-fill housing project on land near the Ingalls School, bordered by Fayette Street, Orange Court and Collins Street Terrace. LHAND Executive Director Charles Gaeta highlighted the agency’s plans to stabilize the Fayette Street neighborhood and recommended eliminating a community garden that has become an eyesore. In a related effort, the City Council in late May warned an automotive repair business at the corner of Essex and Chestnut streets about working on cars in the street, on the sidewalk and stockpiling used tires and motor vehicle parts on the property. The Trash Bash features a free lunch. For more information about the event, call 781-581-8624.
