SWAMPSCOTT – The school district has been awarded almost $45,000 in grants from the Essex County Community Foundation (ECCF).Eight teachers at the high school have received grants of $4,779 each and the Stanley School received a grant of $4,740. The grants are from the Hardscrabble Education Fund, which is a fund established by ECCF that offers grants to public schools in Beverly, Lynn, Marblehead, Nahant, Salem and Swampscott. At the high school, the money will be used in the math department for “Techno-Interactivity.” No one was available at the high school on Thursday to provide specifics about the program. The Stanley School is using the money for the Measures of Academic Progress Assessment pilot program. Principal Pamela Angelakis said she is pleased the school was awarded the grant to roll out the Northwest Evaluation Tool.”We’re very excited,” she said. “It is a strong assessment tool. We can set individual plans for every kid in the school and set a target for every child. We will roll it out in the fall and assess students three times a year.”Angelakis said the assessments would be used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of every child.”It’s not just about remediation,” she said. “It will give us information we need to challenge every child. I am really looking forward to being able to have discussions with teachers about each individual child and what each child needs to succeed.”ECCF was established in 1999 to provide grant support to non-profits and educational institutions in Essex County.
