WLA Red Sox oust Pine Hill Phillies from City Series

The West Lynn American Red Sox broke out the bats early and cruised to a 14-4 win in four innings over the Pine Hill Phillies, in the loser’s bracket final of the Lynn Softball City Series, Friday, at Lynn Woods.West Lynn American plays the Wyoma Diamondbacks tonight (5:30) at Wyoma. A WLA victory would force the ‘if necessary’ game on Sunday.Against Pine Hill, the Red Sox scored five runs in the first inning, three in the second and five more in the third to jump out to a 13-2 lead.Jenn Ideria reached base three times and scored three runs, while Ivy Martin drove in two runs with a single.Martin limited Pine Hill to four hits and struck out six. Defensively, catcher Courtney Braswell make a diving catch of a foul ball and threw out a runner at third base. Brandy Sequira played a fine game at shortstop.For the Phillies, Jordan Frye drove in a run with a single, scored two runs and played a strong game at shortstop before pitching the final two innings. Kasey Harris singled, scored a run and walked. Brianna Maynard and Katherine Perez also had hits for Pine Hill.Legion baseballDanvers 2, Salem 1At Twi-Field in Danvers, Greg Ladd remained undefeated in 2010 by allowing just one run on four hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts. Ladd was 9-0 during the high school season for Danvers High.Danvers got both of its runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Sean Petrikis and single by Patrick Murphy. Salem scored its lone run in the top of the sixth.Connery 7, Methuen 5Matt Turmenne picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief of starter Kurtis White (3 innings, 2 runs ). Alex Fiste picked up the save. Connery had plenty of firepower at the plate with Nick Day driving in two runs; Nick Roberts was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI; . Ryan Beliveau (2 RBI), Alex Fiste (hit, RBI) and Anthony Ortiz (2 runs scored). Connery (1-0) plays Lawrence tonight at 8 p.m. at Breed.
