MARBLEHEAD – Youth was served at the 47th annual Tedesco Cup at Tedesco CC on Saturday.Late in the final round of the 36-hole, best ball tournament, it looked for all the world like the team of Douglas Doben and Andrew Leader-Cramer was set to pick up the winner’s crystal as their score of 14-under par looked to be unbeatable.In swooped the team of Chris Kane and George Sargent, however, as they prospered in the late afternoon conditions to card a final round of 7-under 63 and take a one-shot victory over Doben and Leader-Cramer.Click here for a photo gallery.In the gross competition, Tyson Dion and Joe Nekoroski put together a pair of steady rounds of 70 to take home the Ted Carangelo Cup following a one-shot victory over Jim and Nick Katsos.Saturday began with a bushel full of teams looking for an opening after Thomas Groom and Jim Walsh set the mark on Friday at 12 under par. Doben and Leader-Cramer were second, one shot behind coming into the final round.Groom and Walsh were unable to duplicate their first-round magic, shooting an even-par 70 on Saturday to finish at 12-under and give everyone behind them the opening they were looking for.Doben and Leader-Cramer took advantage of the chance by shooting 67 to post a score of 126, a mark that seemed to be nearly unattainable.The team of Tony Athanas-Paul Rogers made a move up the leaderboard with a final round 63 that put them into a tie for fourth with Greg Mahan-Chris Pollara and Ed and Mike Holland. The Hollands made one of the day’s biggest moves with an 8-under 62 on Saturday.The day’s biggest move, though, belonged to the team of Tim McDonough and Ed Holland III, who shot a 62 on Saturday to jump into a tie for 10th at 9-under par. Finishing one shot ahead of them in seventh were the teams of Scott Boal-Paul Radochia; Mike O’Donnell-Eddie Bakker; and the Katsoses.In the gross competition, Dion and Nekoroski were one shot behind starting the day but were able to post a score of 140 in the morning, giving everyone else a mark to chase.Several teams gave it a shot but came up heartbreakingly short.Chris Drucas-Billy Stone shot rounds of 72-71 to finish in fourth while the teams of Mahan-Pollara; Peter Dalton-Luke Allain and Brendan Locke-Ed Blackerby shared fifth.
