LYNN – It took a while for Wyoma to get going on Monday at Flynn Field, but once it did, Winthrop never stood a chance in a District 16 Little League baseball tournament matchup.Brett Holey, Brett Molea and Brendan O’Neil all slugged homers as Wyoma pounded out 15 hits and cruised to a 15-3, 4-inning win.”I’m very happy,” Wyoma manager Paul Holey said. “Everybody hit well up and down the lineup. It was a solid all-around game for us.”Things got off to a rocky start for Wyoma on Monday as Winthrop’s Pat Todisco hit a rocket shot home run in the top of the first to give his team a 1-0 lead. That margin didn’t last long, though, as O’Neil singled and Holey picked a fine time to crank his first career homer to give Wyoma the lead at 2-1.Molea followed with a single and went to second on an error. A passed ball moved him up 60 feet before Brendan Powicki lifted a sac fly to center to make it 3-1 after an inning.”It was a little scary there when Brett gave up the homer to the second batter,” Paul Holey said. “But he kept battling and it was great to see him get his first homer.”It stayed 3-1 into the third, when Winthrop fought back. No. 9 batter Danny Sennott led off with a walk and went to second when Jake Letterie reached on an error.Todisco followed with a single to load the bases. Matt Feeley then ripped a hit to center, scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3. But Todisco was caught too far off third and was tagged out after a long rundown. Feeley then was thrown out at second to complete a game-changing double play.Wyoma responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the third to go ahead for good. Powicki reached on an error to lead off and wound up at third via a passed ball and wild pitch. David Ryan followed with a walk before Dan Hennessey singled to score Powicki for a 4-3 lead.Andrew Moccia reached on an error in front of pinch hitter Devin Doucette, who singled home Ryan to make it 5-3. One out later, Holey drew a walk to score Hennessey for a 6-3 lead after three.Holey also settled down after the third, keeping Winthrop at bay before exiting in the fifth in favor of Powicki. Wyoma added an unearned run in the fourth before putting things away in the fifth.O’Neil singled and later scored on Molea’s towering homer to right that made it 9-3. Powicki singled and Herbie Newton followed with a walk.Eric Giguere’s base hit scored Powicki before two more runs crossed on Patrick Bartholomew’s base hit. O’Neil capped off the day for Wyoma with a bomb of a 3-run homer that closed out the scoring.
