LL Roundup: It’s a big day for Saugus squads

Getting a balanced contribution from its lineup, the Saugus American Little League baseball team defeated West Lynn American, 10-2, at the Forest Avenue Fields in Swampscott on Tuesday.”Most of the team hit,” Saugus American manager Perry Pulicari said. “It’s a good win. It picked the team up. We’ll have to practice for the next couple of days.”West Lynn is eliminated.Steve Lima pitched five and a third innings for Saugus American. Kurt Martin pitched two-thirds of an inning to finish up the game.Gus Primo, Patrick Murray (triple, 2 RBI), Kevin Constantine, Jack Pulicari (hit, RBI) and Matt Borick (hit, RBI) all contributed for Saugus American.Saugus National 6, Pine Hill 2At Saugus American, the Nats won the right to host the loser of Thursday’s Swampscott-Nahant game Friday night (5:45) at West Lynn American’s Walter Flynn Field.The loss eliminates Pine Hill.Joe Prentice was the pitching star in this one, going five and one-third innings and striking out 12 while giving up only two hits.Pine Hill scored its two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Paul Cook. Evan Reddick, Anthony Ross and Andre Gaudet all walked before Joe Tardiff hit a two-run single.Tom McGee also had a hit for Pine Hill, in the third inning.Pine Hill manager Ron Gaudet praised the pitching effort he got from Tardiff, Matt Stanley and Ross.Gaudet said of his whole team, “I’m very proud of them. They worked their hearts out. They played their hearts out. That’s all I can ask for as a coach.”Offensively, Saugus National’s Luke Surette hit a three-run homer and Brendan Grocki was 3-for-3 with two RBI.Tyler Serino’s first-inning single knocked home Saugus’ other run.
