LYNN n The Lynn Babe Ruth 13-year-old team won its opening game of the District 8 tournament Wednesday at Breed Middle School?s Ben Bowzer Complex, 7-6 over Revere, in the most bizarre of ways.First, the Lynners spotted Revere leads of 5-4 and 6-5, and came back both times. Second, the tying and winning runs scored in the bottom of the eighth inning even though nothing Lynn hit left the infield.?We were fortunate to win,” said Lynn manager Jeff Earp. “Revere played hard ? and they played well. Their starting pitcher (Noah Jaynes) threw the ball hard. We had a lot of strikeouts (14 in all). That?s a good team.”Lynn will play Saugus, winners of a 17-9 game over Danvers earlier last night, tonight (8) at the Bowzer Complex, where the entire tournament is being played.Lynn started its winning rally with one out in the eighth, and trailing 6-5. James Ausiello was hit by reliever Zack Coles? sweeping curve, and Joe Ragusa followed with a walk.Coles looked to get a big strikeout when he fanned Damien Earp, and looked to be out of danger when Kyle O?Connor hit a weak grounder just to the left of the mound. However, the ball skidded past Coles and O?Connor beat it out. That?s when the fun started.Ausiello, who never stopped running, got caught in a pickle between home and third. But he managed to slide into home to score the tying run. On the play, Ragusa went all the way to third. With Brad Scuzzarella up, Ragusa came home with the winning run on a wild pitch.Scuzzarella pitched five innings in relief, taking over for starter Katie Burt in the fourth inning.Revere had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth.Saugus 17, Danvers 9Alex Pettenati pitched four innings and got the win. He allowed three runs. Teammate Chuck Vozella scored four runs and went 2-for-2. Victor Gematteo hit a bases-clearing triple in the second inning to give Saugus a 5-3 lead that Saugus did not relinquish.Joe Bertrand went 2-for-3, while Carl Zebrowski and Chris Mitchell each hit run-scoring singles in a 6-run fourth inning.
