SWAMPSCOTT – The two finalists for the high school principal position are scheduled to tour the school, meet with faculty and be interviewed today.Superintendent Lynne Celli said the two finalists for the position are Belmont High School Assistant Principal Layne Millington and Warren White, who retired as principal of Lynn Classical High School last year after 38 years in the district. Both candidates are scheduled for a final interview today but the interviews are not open to the public. The district is searching for a replacement for Brian Salzer, who resigned June 30 to accept the business manager position in Marblehead. This is not the first time Millington has been a finalist for the high school principal job in Swampscott. He was one of four finalists last year but was beat out by Salzer, who only remained with the district for a year.Millington is currently the assistant principal at Belmont High School. He was previously a science department chairman and physics teacher at Georgetown High School. Prior to his tenure in Georgetown, Millington taught science at Wakefield High School and Springfield High School in Springfield, Vt. Millington, who was previously employed by Mellon Financial, holds a bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s degree in Curriculum from Castleton State College and a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from Salem State College.White retired as principal of Lynn Classical on Aug. 30, 2009. He started his career in education teaching family living at Cobbet Junior High and he spent the next 15 years teaching physical education in numerous schools in Lynn. He also taught social studies and was a guidance counselor in Lynn.
