SAUGUS ? Moving on ?In the unusual position of playing in the loser’s bracket, the Saugus 15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team took care of business with a tidy 10-0 slaughter rule win over Danvers, Friday, at World Series Park.Saugus was slated to play today (10) against Wakefield in another elimination game. District 1 champs as 13 and 14-year-olds, Saugus must win its next four games to capture the title this year.”Maybe we put a little too much pressure on the kids, so we wanted them to come out loose tonight,” Saugus manager Derek Sweeney said. “We just wanted them to relax and have fun.”Dom DiPesa pitched the first four innings and allowed one hit, while Nick Antenucci threw 1-2-3 top of the fifth. Offensively, Saugus scored one run in the second inning on a double by Nick Enos and a single by Steve Russo and three in each of the next three innings to account for its 10 runs.Antenucci led off the third with a home run, and Shane Ripley and Nick Taylor hit doubles sandwiched around an error. In the fourth, Peter Polcari tripled, and DiPesa and Korey Dominik singled around a hit-by-pitch. Polcari beat out an infield hit to shortstop with two outs in the fifth, and after a walk and a couple of stolen bases, Antenucci blooped a single to left to score both runs. DiPesa’s liner to right one-hopped the fence and scored Antenucci to give Saugus the 10-run slaughter rule margin.”We live another day,” Sweeney said.”We know our backs are against the wall, and we’ll have our hands full with Wakefield. Every team in this tournament is tough.”
