SALEM – U.S. Rep. John F. Tierney on Monday will hold the first in a series of workshops aimed at showing local communities and non-profit organizations how to apply for federal grants.Tierney, a Salem Democrat, said representatives from federal and state agencies will discuss grant opportunities for municipalities, non-profits, housing developments and health care organizations.The free public workshops are held at Salem State College’s Bertolon School of Business on the central campus.”Federal grants are important to our local communities as we work to rebuild our economy, create and save jobs,” Tierney said. “I believe these workshops can help our local municipalities, non-profits, housing developments and health care organizations access all available resources and opportunities for federal funds.”At the first of three workshops, presenters will include representatives from the U.S. E-Grants Initiative, Salem State College, U.S. Census Bureau and the Essex County Community Foundation.The workshop “Grants 101: Finding Funding Opportunities & Navigating the Grant-Writing Process” will be held Monday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.The second workshop, “Housing & Community Development Funding Opportunities” is on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the same time.The last workshop, “Health & Human Services Grants,” is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 25.
