SWAMPSCOTT-Swampscott police in conjunction with the Massachusetts Alcohol and Beverage Control Commission, will be conducting minimum age purchase law compliance checks through the remainder of the year.Police Chief Ronald Madigan said funds from an Executive Office of Public Safety and Security grant have helped the department mobilize patrols and sting operations to curb underage drinking.?One of the things we use the grant money for are party patrols,” he said. “We recently broke up an underage drinking party on Phillips Beach and one person was charged.”Madigan said some of the grant money would be used to make alcohol compliance checks. The checks, which are conducted by the state Alcohol Beverage Control Commission and Swampscott Police Department, are sting operations where a minor tries to procure alcoholic beverages from establishments in town that sell or serve alcohol. Madigan said the minimum age purchase law compliance checks are conducted at least once a year in town.
